How Curiosity and Creativity Shape One Firm
This post is part of a series we'll be featuring about the perspectives at Quinn Evans and how they shape our approach to projects and how we deliver value for clients.
Curiosity breeds creativity. For many members of the Quinn Evans team that curiosity began at a young age and blossomed into a lifelong love of learning, exploration, and discovery.
Years later, our team members continue to encourage professional learning and trying new things.
“What is great about our job is that one does not get bored if one is willing to find new things to learn, explore, and be amazed by,” says Andrea Quilici, AIA, LEED AP.
President and CEO Alyson Steele, FAIA, LEED AP, recommends slowing down while working to provide moments of serendipity and discovery.
"Get engaged in things that interest you regardless of whether you know where they may lead," she says. "In time you will discover they make a difference in surprising ways."
Steele also emphasizes patience and curiosity when mentoring new architects and team members.
“If you have an interest in something, even outside of architecture, even outside of your work life, explore it,” she says. “Slow down a little bit to allow for more than just scratching the surface of things.”
For Principal Jennifer Henriksen, AIA, Quinn Evans creates a culture that inspires and supports creativity.
“I’m given the space to be curious and learn new things,” Henriksen says “It also allows me to keep doing what I enjoyed even before architecture -- problem-solving through research and creativity.”
For Quinn Evans, encouraging curiosity extends into certain projects we seek out. We believe there are no limits to how or where learning can happen, and we create vibrant places of learning that expand opportunities for people and communities to thrive. We envision and deliver flexible, integrated solutions for K12, higher education, and library projects.
